Around the Bases in the Golden League — June 17

It is a day late if there are any repeat viewers of my weekly GBL article.

Some of the astronomical averages have come down since last week. St. George’s shortstop, Brandon Taylor is still amongst the league leaders in hitting but is now being chased by Calgary Viper veteran slugger Drew “It’s” Miller(time). Miller has a Ruthesque 1.560 OPS through 19 games. Staying with Calgary, Evan Gruesel continues his dominance. Through his 5 starts he has a Bob Gibsonesque 0.94 WHIP in a hitters league. Gruesel can place alot of his success on his control. He has walked only one Golden League hitter so far this season.

Orange County’s Andre Simpson won two games this week to jump into the league lead in wins with a perfect 5-0. Both OC and Calgary have opened up signifcant leagues in their respective divisions.

There are definitley some outrageous scores in this league. The Yuma Scorpions had it handed to them 24-4 last Tuesday only to return the favour 14-8 in games in the OC. Jordy Alexander and the Calgary Vipers recored the first shutout, 6-0 over the weak Chico team.
