Around the Bases in the Golden League
Here are some tidbits from the first few nights of GBL action.
The Calgary Vipers made a blockbuster deal sending pitcher John Odom (borrows the namesake from Oakland A’s star of the 1970’s) to the Laredo Broncos of the United League for 10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats, double-dipped black 34 inch C243 style. Apparently Odom was unable to cross into Canada. The United League operates in west Texas.
This trade has not paid off as the Vipers have been outscored 16-10 in their first two games, both losses, in Edmonton. Next time hold out for a full dozen bats.
Yuma’s bats have been tearing it up, scoring 31 runs in the first 3 nights. Long Beach has also put up 33 runs against St.George this weekend. Steve Moss of Long Beach liked what the Roadrunners were serving up with 3 HR 8 RBI’s and a .533 average in the 3 game set.
Teams will have two or three nights off before pairing up for next weekend. Edmonton will visit Calgary starting Thursday night at Foothills Stadium.
Interleague trades! How often does that happen?
