David Bush HBP Update: 04/12/07
I figure we can have some fun with this throughout the season and track Bush’s HBP, BB, and K totals.
If youâ’re wondering why this is of interest to us Mop Up Duty guys, go back and read the first part of our series, Effective Wildness. The gist? Well, we looked at pitchers BB/HBP ratios. The simplistic logic is if a pitcher has a low BB total and a high HBP total (thus a low ratio) that he might be hitting batters on purpose. Through our analyses, we found David Bushâ’s name popping up a number of times. In-fact, he owns three of the lowest six ratios of all-time. Through two starts in the 2007 season;

Itâ’s early but a typical David Bush line. Plenty of strikeouts (1 per inning), super low walk totals, a high SO/BB ratio (12:1) and a super low EF. Weâ’ll keep up to date about once every two starts to see if the trend continues.
