Happy Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo (“The Fifth of May” in Spanish) is primarily a regional, and not a federal, holiday in Mexico; the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Why then is Billy Beane making a mockery of this special day by using Jack Cust in the DH role instead of his Mexican darling dear Erubiel Durazo?
It was only 3 years ago that Durazo finished 23rd in MVP voting. Although Cust has slammed 199 minor league home runs, he has only played 70 major league games (despite battling nagging injuries). For a team like Oakland with playoff aspirations, I feel that Beane should go with the proven veteran who is spicing up the Mexican League with an OPS of 1.136.
¡Viva Mexico!
Who wants to work on holidays?
Good point.
I always liked Jack Cust in playstation/computer baseball games. He’d rank near the top in Power stats.
As for his real life production, he’s never really been given a full-time chance in the big leagues, mostly being a PH and platoon player. He’s always been an interesting case in the minors, for example last year he hit 30 HR in AAA, struck out 124 times but took 143 BB. 143 BB!!! for a .467 OBP.
Looks like Cust hit his first ding-dong last night. Maybe I will be forced to eat my words…
Hey! You wanna know what else goes great with Cinco de Mayo besides chips and salsa?? Latin Music! The best I can suggest goes by the name of Trio Caliente.
Their music is festive and full of energy. If you’re having any celebrations today bump their single “Baila Me”
HAPPY Cinco de Mayo!!!!!!
