First off, I’d like to thank all of the readers of Mop Up Duty. The site has only been around a little over two months but we’ve already amassed over 8500 hits, including over 5000 in October alone! We are committed to maintain daily updates throughout the off-season, covering the free agent market, upcoming prospects, fantasy baseball 2007, history articles. etc. But, as we’ve done so far, we’ll present unique views on the information, not a carbon copy of an ESPN report. So if you haven’t bookmarked or RSS feed us yet, make a point to do so now.

With my little rant out of the way, I’m happy to say that we’ve finally got around to adding an About Us page, which is located in the top right man corner.

The All-Party Team

While many young men dream of becoming a baseball player for pure reasons such as making a living playing the game that they love and playing in ballparks that the greats have played in there are also other motivational factors. This would include being “that guy” at the bar. You know the guy who I am talking about. The ladies want him, and the men want to be him. The guys buy him drinks for being a stud on the field and the ladies crowd him in the hopes he will be a stud off the field. You don’t have to be good looking necessarily - hell, you can be downright ugly and it doesn’t matter as long as you are a baseball player. Wherever you go, the ultimate party zone follows you. I now present to you the Mop Up Duty “All-Party” team. This is a list of the most notorious party guys accompanied by pictures of the players caught in the act. A big shout-out goes to On The DL, a baseball gossip blog which is a very entertaining read. Make sure you check it out. Now, without further adieu, The All-Party Team.

When did Jeff Weaver learn to pitch?

Here’s another pinch hit article. This article was re-edited earlier this week and does not reflect Weaver’s game 5 gem, although it alludes to his success. Prophetic indeed. This article originally appeared over at the Chi-Sox Blog. ~~

When did Jeff Weaver learn to pitch? Can someone fill me in, please? Is it the moustache or maybe the muller? Either the Cards secretly inserted Jeff’s brother, Jered, into the lineup or perhaps Jeff finally tapped into that potential that everyone kept raving about.

Blue Jays in Cooperstown

Hall bound Blue Jays

There have been many great players to put on the double blue in the last 30 years but none of them have been inducted into Cooperstown wearing a Jay’s hat. Part of the Cooperstown mystique is a multi-team player choosing the team he would like to be remembered by. There has been some controversy lately Gary Carter as an Expo, Dave Winfield as a Padre and Nolan Ryan as a Ranger.
Don’t get me wrong there are Jays in the Hall of Fame Winfield, Paul Molitor and Phil Neikro to be exact.
There have been Blue Jays at the bottom of many ballots in the last few years, namely Tom Henke, Dave Steib, George Bell and Joe Carter have had a handful of votes between them but none were good enough to consider ever being inducted as a player; Steib maybe as a long shot.
