MLB.com Fantasy Baseball Review
Is it worth the time to draft and upkeep a team in the MLB.com Open free Fantasy Baseball game?

The playoffs start way too early for my liking, although they do allow all teams to participate. Around this time it will be prudent to dump some of non performing veterans and add some of the better mid-season prospect call-ups.
The scoring is done in a typical points format, with points for hits, doubles, sb, etc. This scoring eliminates the need to compete in categories such as steals if players choose to go that route. Take that as a positive or negative based upon your personal preferences.
An error did take place for one of the league teams. In the middle of the draft this came across:

Losing a middle of the draft selection to an error is a big strike against this service. I’m not sure if this happens on a regular basis.
The real downfall of the service is the selection of pitching. Players choose an entire staff, not individual pitchers. And with the way that the points system works teams that collect wins are almost always at the top of the pitching rankings. I personally went with a strategy of home park factors, taking the Dodgers and the Mariners. I will put the team that has the most home starts in my weekly lineup.
My roster:

I still have a balanced team but in typical fantasy baseball I may have been in trouble in the HR category.
For the free price tag you can’t go wrong. Unless pitchers are available next season I’ll probably skip opening up a team.
