Why Belliard is Unsigned
In the spirit of Valentines’ Day, Mr. X brings you a tale of love gone wrong.
Looks like the hottest infielder left on the market is Ronnie Belly-ard. Former Indians and Cardinals stud, it has puzzled some why he has not yet signed a deal with a MLB team this offseason. Mr. X has just learned that Hot Ron has been spending his offseason dabbling in sexual dalliances with teenaged women. Belliard soon found out that if something is too good to be true, it usually is and while Hot Ron plays with fire on a regular basis, this time he ended up getting burned.
Federal authorities in St. Louis say George Edwards tried to get an athlete to pay $150,000 to keep quiet about a sexual liaison last fall with Edwards’ daughter, Laura L. Edwards, which allegedly resulted in a pregnancy.
Belliard could not be reached. His agent, Dominic Torres, confirmed that Belliard was the player at the center of the extortion case.
The Bronx-born Belliard, 31, is married and has two children, according to the baseball website MLB.com.
Milo Edwards insisted that the first offer of money came from Belliard, after learning she was pregnant. Milo Edwards said Belliard was trying “to save his butt because he’s a married man.”
In the National League Division Series against San Diego, Belliard had six hits in 13 at-bats. Belliard remains a free agent and has received little attention this offseason (not counting 18 year old girls).
Until next time, this is Mr. X signing off, off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush.
