Random NL Stats
I was just searching about the Baseball Reference pages and I figured to throw a few odd NL end of season stats at you.
As I was doing this I went through a few team pages. I scrolled down on the Arizona Diamondbacks pitching stats and found out that both Jeff Cirillo and Augie Ojeda both took the mound for the Diamondbacks in blowouts this past season. Both went 1 IP, with neither allowing a run. Cirillo walked two but struck out one. Ojeda worked a perfect IP.
Andre Ethier was 8th in NL Intentional Walks. This was due to him hitting 8th in the lineup.
A player that I’ll touch on in a little while, Matt Belisle was 8th in NL SO/BB ratio.
Woody Williams led the NL with 35 HR Allowed. This is the fifth time that he’s in the top 5 and he now ranks 39th all-time in HR Allowed.
One of baseball’s most under-rated pitchers Jon Rauch once again pitched over 85 games, this time leading baseball with 88 appearances, picking up 8 wins.
Smoltz enters 2008 needing only 25 K to reach 3000 career.
Utley played in 28 less games in 07 than 06. Yet he somehow managed to get hit by 11 more pitches to pace the league with 25 HBP.
Jeff Francoeur has quietly played in 326 consecutive games and will start the 2008 season at the age of 23. If he plays in every game until he’s 30 he’ll have a running total of 1622, good for third all-time and only 508 behind Gehrig. Don’t count on it.
