Jacoby Ellsbury – 2007 Spring Training Breakout Star?Â
Â

Â
I’ve previously stated that I’m not Ellsbury’s biggest fan, but so far he’s been impressive in spring training for the Red Sox. On Saturday, Jacoby came into pinch run and proceeded to swipe his second bag of the spring. Watching the Red Sox broadcast on Friday night, after hitting a triple, the announcers were commenting on how they and the Red Sox brass were extremely impressed with Ellsbury so far this camp. With the Red Sox being far from sold on one Coco Crisp, keep your eye on Jacoby’s box score lines and future Boston managements comments to get the inside track on this year’s possible spring training breakout player. He’ll have an uphill battle to make the team out of camp, but a strong performance will certainly give him a shot at a call-up during the season if Coco falters or is traded.

Fantasy Spin:Â
Â
If you’re in a deep fantasy baseball league that allows for reserves, give Jacoby a look. For the rest of the fantasy players out their, keep your eye on his development. It’s certainly possible that we could see Ellsbury in a Red Sox uniform sooner than later.
Nothing new there. Ellsbury has always been a speedy CF with more of a doubles bat than an HR swing type that should play solid D and swipe some bags.
